Most of us believe that giving birth is the essence of being a woman and having a child is truly a blessing from above but this belief seems to be contradicting to the sacred rules imposed by the Catholic Church to nuns. This week, a 31-year-old nun from the convent, “Little Disciples of Jesus”, in Italy was shocked the day when she was rushed in the hospital due to stomach cramps but ended giving birth to a healthy baby boy.

The Salvadorean nun said that she has no idea that she’s pregnant and that she only felt some abdominal pain. The nun called the ambulance on Wednesday and few hours later she gave birth to a baby boy weighing 9 pounds (3.5 kilograms). This strange incident has drawn huge attention internationally and to her fellow nuns at the convent. The news agency, ANSA, reported that the young mother named her son Francesco (Francis), name taken after Pope Francis which is also one of the most popular names in Italy, where St. Francis of Asisi is the much-loved national patron saint. After giving birth, other new mothers in Rieti hospital have begun collecting clothes and donations for the mother and baby.
Local pastor Don Fabrizio told the journalist that the nun planned to take care of the baby and quoted:
“I guess she’s telling the truth when she says she arrived at the hospital unaware of pregnancy.”
The hospital where the said nun gave birth could not be reach for a comment.
Comments from different people flooded the online community regarding this matter. One said that there was a problem in Christiandom, others compared her pregnancy with the Virgin Mary and joked that a new Jesus was born while some revealed that this scenario is already common in Italy and said that many nuns do operations and change their wombs to prevent pregnancy.
With this brave revelation, we just hope that this case won’t change or lessen our faith in God because, each and every one of us are humans, we commit mistakes, we ask for forgiveness and we’re forgiven and at the end of the day, it is God who’ll judge us.
