Many of the city’s top restaurants and nightclubs are scrambling to host parties to mark the NFL’s Super Bowl scheduled for this Sunday, February 2.
The parties range from celebrity-only affairs to $100 afternoon brunches. Cipriani’s ticket, which includes food, drinks, a fashion show and entertainment, will cost $2,500. Owners of bars and clubs in the Meatpacking District and West Village are going to be flush with limousines and red carpets, according to party promoters.
Francesca Borgognone, who is helping to plan a Cipriai’s dinner for Shape and Men’s Fitness Magazine, thinks “celebrities will only come to events that are hosted by other celebrities.”
According to city officials January usually brings the fewest number of tourists before the high energy New York Fashion Week which kicks off February 6-13. The Super Bowl is set to bring some 400,000 people to the area with bars and restaurants poised to seize the opportunity to cater to guests.
Tao downtown, where a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue goes for $800, is moving in 100-inch screen televisions. Marquee is bringing in electronic music star Tiesto and a floor to ceiling LED screen television. At downtown Dream, party planners are decorating the rooftop in a Super Bowl theme and bringing performers in town for a Sunset Saturday Fest with tables that cost up to $20,000.
