This picture was taken on May 28, 1913, the college of Pilipina women. This is the custom dress for women during the Spaniards era. Fashion before was unsightly, orderly and respectable.
Those time it was colder in the Philippines. I remember when I was in Grade 1, if it was Dec, I came to school wearing jacket. Specially rural area such as provinces.
My mother was born on 50's. She told me that time, there are no electric fans. Most of the women use garments long enough to cover them, from neck to toes.
Today in the Philippines none can wear those dresses anymore. Not for the reason of fashion, but because of climate change.
