Older women contributed a lot building up the future generation keeping their grandchild in touch with their familial and cultural roots.
Remember the good old days when we would lie beside our grandmother as they narrate tales of fantasy, morality and fun- the wit of Birbal, the righteousness of the Pandavas or self crafted “Grand mothers’s stories”. Those were the stories that helped us learn some of the most important lessons of our lives. Today though with technology invading our lives like never before and nuclear families with working parents over powering the social set up the art of storytelling has been rare.
The role of grandmothers in each of the family was immense with their art of storytelling made a child to think and enhance their imaginative power. These were more of an interactive session was more of a humane touch that instigated the child to counter ask questions. Technology advancement has obvious made life easy with very little space to make mistakes. The creativity is more technology driven which resist going beyond certain parameters.
The values of life are seeing missing. People killing each other, their loved ones maybe even their own family. Respect to elders is hardly seen. Those grandmothers really helped to infuse human values to fabricate a strong foundation of the future generation.
