A man was killed and 24 others were injured in an Awami League factional clash in Magura on Thursday morning. 
The dead is Nannu Sheikh, 38.
The injured are undergoing treatment at Magura Sadar Hospital.
Police detained eight people from the spot. 
Local people said, the clash ensued between two groups, led by Shatrujitpur union AL president Zahurul Islam and AL supporter Muktar Sheikh, who had a long standing rivalry.
The local AL sources said, Zahurul Islam, who is also the Shatrujitpur UP chairman ,was supporter of prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s private assistant Saifuzzaman Shikhar’s candidate while Muktar was behind state minister for youth and sports Biren Sikdar’s candidate in sadar upazila by-poll, which was held on 21 July.
Saifuzzaman Shikhar’s candidate was elected in the by-poll. 
Police said, centering the result of the poll, the two groups were entangled in clash with sharp weapons today morning. At one stage, the offenders vandalised and looted houses of the opposite group. 
At least 25 people were injured in the clash. Off them, Muktar Sheikh’s bother Nannu Sheikh died at Magura Sadar Hospital, the police added.
