Today we stumbled upon a great website called Open Culture (www.openculture.com), an incredibly useful and well-organized platform that lists the best free cultural & educational media on the web.
As we all know, Internet can be an overwhelmingly confusing and crowded place at times. Sites like Open Culture is exactly what we need when trying to find the best and the most relevant content on the web.
At first glance, you'll see that Open Culture has three main sections. These are Audio & Podcasts, Video, and Most Popular. Each section targets different resources and caters to different needs. For example in the Audio & Podcast section, you can find links to free podcasts of hundreds of courses taught at distinguished universities such as Stanford, MIT, and Yale. What's even better is that all these links are organized according to their subjects, such as Architecture, Physics, and Urban Studies.
In the Video section, you can find links to and explanations of the top 30 places to watch free movies online, which Film Annex is also listed on! Moreover, you'll have access to hundreds of university videos, YouTube favorites, and other various educational and entertaining videos. Basically, there is something for everyone. There is also a category section, which makes everyone's life easier by giving them the option to select from keywords like film, environment, law, life, literature, etc.
Open Culture was founded by Dan Colman, who is the lead editor of the site as well as the Director & Associate Dean of Stanford’s Continuing Studies Program. Open Culture scours the web and sifts through all the media to highlight the good content so you can find what you're looking for much more efficiently than if you spend your time searching with Google, Yahoo or iTunes.
