(Opinion) Afghanistan Violence: Why Afghanistan will never see peace

Posted on at

War is usually defined as one army in combat with another but in Afghanistan, this definition of war is obsolete to say the least. suicide attacks at weddings and outside mosques tell you that the frames offered by the media are less than accurate. BBC News reports that 'at least 41' Afghans have been killed in a suicide bomb attack outside mosque during celebrations to 'mark Eid al-Adha'.There is no army to attack or any real strategic assets to destroy so normal Afghans are more often than not targeted. This scenario is why the the security dynamic has always been a key factor in Afghan politics. Warlords can get elected to office promising very little more than keeping people safe among the tumult. This dynamic gets in the way of real change as security concerns take over all others. Normal Afghans who seek office stand no chance as they have no real security apparatus at their disposal. Promises of improving education and water supply simply do not hold water. In sum, Afghan chances of peace are slim due people rather than armies or strategic assets are the targets of war confirmed by the nature of recent attacks.with this in place, this only prevents real change as local strongmen can run for and win political power based on the fears of normal Afghans.
