Heavily-armed Pakistani terrorists on Saturday attempted to storm the Air Force base at Punjab's Pathankot in India triggering a day-long gun battle between the security men and the terrorists which led to death of three security men and four infiltrators. The attackers are believed to have infiltrated from Pakistan and there was speculation that they might belong to Jaish-e-Mohammad headed Maulana Masood Azhar of the Kandahar hijack episode. The attack happened days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's surprise stopover in Lahore. Several weapons have been recovered from the attackers which include AK 47s, mortars, grenade launchers and GPS or Global Positioning System devices. Vital air force assets like MiG-21 Bison fighters and Mi-35 attack helicopters were, however, safe.
