Q. HOW SOUND IS PRODUCED?
sound is produced by:
1.Vibrating body:
A vibrating body produces sound. As an activity, we can produce sound in a metallic utensil by hitting it with a spoon. If we touch utensil with our hand gently, we will feel vibration in it. 2. Sound can be produced by hitting a tuning fork on a rubber pad to see vibration sound produce in it bring metallic ball suspending by a thread near one of the prong, the ball will fly always soon as it touch the vibrating body. Form above discussion and examples we conclude that sound is produced only if a body is vibrating.
2.Transmitting medium:
When a body vibrates, it emits sound those sound reach us through material medium like solid liquid and gases in the form of longitudinal waves 2. We can prove by a simple experiment that sound waves cannot travel in vacuum. Air or same other material medium is required for the propogation of sound waves. Experiment: Suspend an electric bell in a glass jar by passing its leads through a cork, the jar is connected to a vacuum pump through its base pass an electric current through the bell it will start vibrating or ringing and we can hear its sound if we start pumping out air from the glass jar the sound of the bell will becomes fainter, if we continuously go on removing air then sound become faint and finally it is harder to listen. Although the bell is ringing but due to absence of air we cannot hear the sound. This experiment shows that a medium is essential for the sound to travel from one point to another.
The Hearing Device:
Any device that can detect sound wave is called hearing device. Ear is device that converts sound waves into the sensation of hearing. There are also many electronic devices can be built to detect sound waves.
When sound waves fall on ear or a Hearing device sensation produces in ear and it transmitted to the brain.
