There are small words the meaning of which we seldom care to know. Ping has been one such word that I have known for years, but never cared to actually find out what it meant till as late as minutes from now and thought to share
My quest started as my broadband speed doubled today as I got a new package. And I thought to check it through the speed test software. And the first thing the test meter checked was the Ping – so I decided to finally to get to know what it really is.
And I found out that “A ping test determines whether your computer can communicate with another computer over the network. Then, if network communication is established, ping tests also determine the connection latency (technical term for delay) between the two computers.”
And how do you determine that the Ping send by your comuter is good or bad. Well a good broadband Internet connection should have less than 100 ms. But a satellite Internet connection normally suffers from latency above 500 ms.
