Thanks to Nisha I have attempted to make my first poha. Poha is a flat rice dish and it came out well but was missing the lemon for the zing. I will work on perfecting my poha making skills and add more dishes to my menu. Today was an adventure. After making poha for lunch, I headed to Secunderabad for the first time by bus. Waited over a half an hour for the bus and ended up taking the first bus that goes to Secunderabad. Didn't bother to wait for the one that goes to Paradise. I got off at a major intersection in Secunderabad and after asking about 4 people I found my way to Paradise bakery. Here I met up with Shreya, one of Meha's friends to shop for Meha's wedding. This was my first experience shopping for Indian attire and was overwhelmed by the vibrant colors and embroidery work. I found some fairly difficult to try on and almost got stuck in a few outfits, especially the one without a zipper. I lost track of time but it was nice being waited on. In the store you sit down in nice leather chairs as the store associate brings out different outfits to show you. After picking out a couple to be set aside, it is off to the changing room. I tried on some lovely outfits and settle on two possibilities. The outfits are long tunics that are beautifully embroidered with pants that are snug on the calves and bunch up at the ankles. Shreya suggested looking at another type of outfit. These ones were luckily on sale and I picked a few out to try on. I settled on a lovely yellow outfit with a straight top that has slits on the side and a turquoise outfit that is long and flowy. The turquoise outfit had to be left behind to be adjusted. The top was too long for me. After shopping we went for lunch and after hearing about butter chicken from Francesca, I decided to try it. It was a good thing I asked about nuts because the sauce is made with cashew nuts. The waiter said none of the Indian dishes would taste as nice without the nuts but I wanted to try the butter chicken. The chef was kind enough to make my meal without any nuts. Shreya was kind enough to drop me at a bus stop but after an hour I learned I was at the wrong bus stop. My bus stop was across the street just past the intersection. Due to language barriers I kept asking around for buses to Chandanagar and kept crossing the road. I even got on one bus and by the time the ticket guy figured out where I was going I had to jump off landing hard on my feet. I then asked around and went back to the bus stop I started at. I recognized the buses that were going by as the ones going to Banjara Hills that I see at the pension office bus stop. A kind man finally gave me directions to the correct bus stop. Silly me almost fell trying to get onto the bus that the driver had to stop the bus. I took bus 226 bus back which was the bus I was supposed to take from my place. I recognized some of the roads because they were the same roads that bus 219 took but after awhile I felt lost. I missed the last bus to aparna by 30min which meant that if I was at the right bus stop from the start and was more persistent in asking around for the correct information I could have made the last bus back to aparna. I walked from the bus stop to PJR enclave where I tried getting an auto. I bought juice to break my 100 and then got apples. Every auto was trying to rip me off because they were not going to get any passengers on the return trip. I am fine making the walk during the day but was scared about making the walk at night because of the construction and I wasn't sure if the road is lit at night. Finally after walking to the point were you turn of PJR I got an auto to take me for 30 which was to much but I felt desperate. I found out the road is lit but I saw very few vehicles on the road and only one group of guys walking which made me feel like I would have been an idiot to walk the entire thing. Tomorrow I hope to get my kitchen garden and also get my wifi set up. Used my travel funds for my outfits and now need to go to the atm because my cash supply is dwindling faster than anticipated.
