Join Action Against Hunger staff and supporters from around the world on June 14th from 9:30 to 10:30 am EST for a live presentation from our Country Director in Cambodia, Jean Luc Lambert,  in which he will answer questions and share new information about the factors driving undernutrition among children in Cambodia.

Our recently launched program in Cambodia, funded exclusively by our partnership with Google, aims to empower communities to build resilience to hunger. Our program will analyze the root causes of undernutrition in highly affected rural communities, and equip families with vital skills to reduce their risk of hunger. Our goals are to prevent and treat undernutrition in the rural province of Preah Vihear. Google technical staff helped Action Against Hunger design new technology, such as digital games and apps, to educate communities about healthy feeding and care practices for infants and young children.  

This "Live from the Field" presentation will offer Country Director Jean Luc Lambert's firsthand account of the direct and underlying causes of undernutrition in our target areas in Cambodia, as well as details on how we are taking action. Participants will be invited to ask questions.

Translating knowledge into action

We have just completed exciting analysis and intensive work with communities and local leaders in Cambodia to understand what is driving hunger and undernutrition in Choam Ksant District, in the north of Preah Vihear Province. We learned that lack of clean water and poor sanitation are one of the top drivers of undernutrition among children in that area.

We are using this analysis, along with detailed surveys on which communities are most affected, to finalize the design of our programs. The next step is to make action plans with the communities where we plan to work.

We began our "response analysis" in early April, and completed it in the first week of May. We selected 12 villages where we will undertake our program activities later in the year, based on what we learned from the analysis. Our technical specialists in nutrition, as well as water and sanitation, worked closely with our field team to help guide the program design and methodology. They will continue to support the field team to develop a Community Action Plan, which aims to empower families and communities to with tools and knowledge to reduce their vulnerability to hunger, undernutrition, and future crises.
