Long before there was "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" there was "I Walked with a Zombie" - a film produced by Val Lewton, who worked at RKO in the 1940's. He was an eager and highly intelligent man, but the studio gave him small budgets, b-actors and a list of horrible titles (such as the one above) and then told him to go make a movie out of it. -What he produced were some of the best thrillers ever. "I Walked with a Zombie" is Jane Eyre set in the Carribbean with the presence of voodoo behind it. He also produced the original "Cat People" which has one of the scariest NY Central Park scenes in it, and my favorite, "Leopard Man", about the frightening affects of a mob mentality. He did so much with the little the studio gave him, also producing "Isle of the Dead" and the original "Body Snatcher". You can rent these amazing films, and see a genius at work. And I love to see that his influence is still carrying over today. **On a personal note, I'm looking forward more to "Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters", because I like sea monsters more than zombies. :)
