Due to non-remunerative prices for potatoes in West Bengal, many of the potato farmers in the state have taken the extreme step of committing suicide. So far eight farmers are reported to have  committed suicide in West Bengal. Highways were blocked on several occasions by potato farmers protesting against the non-availability of potato bonds, which would enable them to store their produce in cold storages. But the government is yet to wake up.
