Quick Loom Knit Handbag

Fuzzy Fall Handbag

This morning I started with three simple tools and a small left over ball of Bernat Blanket Yarn, Harvest. I unfortunately did not weigh or take a picture of the yarn but it was about the size of my fist. Here are the steps, for any bitlanders that may want to try this form of knitting.

(Crochet hook size K, ergonomic loom knitting hook, 26 peg Knifty Knitter Loom)

Linked videos are not mine; they are videos I have found helpful while teaching myself to loom knit.
  1. Start with the crochet cast on.

  2. The next eight rows you want to garter stitch. For this technique you knit one row and then slip stitch the next; it is really four sets of garter ribs. This forms the top of the bag.

  3. The following eight rows use alternating e-wrap and u-wrap rows. This is an easy way to tighten up the knit; which can be too loose with just the e-wrap and too tight with just the u-wrap.

  4. The remaining eight rows on the body were done with u-wrap on pegs 1 and 14 (the ends of the loom) and e-wrap all other pegs. This gives a consistent row of tighter stitches to support that handle/strap to be crocheted on later.

  5. Begin the bottom portion of the bag by knitting three sets of garter stitch. The number of rows you do next will vary will the size of ball. I used up all but an arm's length of the with the u-wrap stitch. Together this ensures the material on the bottom of the bag will be very tight and strong. For a closing use a drawstring bind off and stitch the bottom closed.

  6. Leave about a yard of yarn to crochet on a simple handle/strap. When doing simple straps you want to simply use the stitches on the interior on the side and start doing a chain. Anchor it onto the other side once you reach the desired length. The last step is to single crochet back to where you started and you're done!
  7.

An enjoyable hour of loom-knitting and you have a unique purse to use this fall!

During the times I have sold my work a bag like this sells for $25.00-$30.00 US Dollars or roughly 0.11-0.13 Bitcoin (at the time of this writing, of course).
