This happened early on Saturday and led to the severance of rail links between Chittagong and the rest of the country.

Nangalkot station master Anwar Hossain said four wheels of the locomotive and two coach wheels of the Chittagong-bound train, Godhuli Express, have gone off the tracks.

There was no report of casualties.

He said about three feet of the track had been uprooted by miscreants. A rescue train was on its way from the Laksam junction.
