Rain stops play again

Rain has stopped play for the second consecutive day in the first Test between Bangladesh and South Africa in Chittagong.

When the players left the field as it was getting dark on Thursday, the visitors were on 61 for no loss, trailing by 17 runs.

Dean Elgar was not out on 28 while Stiaan van Zyl was unbeaten on 33, both hitting four fours each.

Soon afterwards, it started drizzling and the game was called off for the day.

Earlier, Bangladesh took a 78-run lead, making 326 before getting all out at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

Starting the day on 179 for 4, skipper Mushfiqur Rahim could only add 12 to his previous day’s 16, but Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Das then added 82 runs in the sixth wicket to make sure Bangladesh have a better first innings total.

Shakib missed a half century for three runs as JP Duminy took a catch off a Simon Harmer delivery, but Litton did make a fifty, courtesy of seven fours, before falling victim to the same bowler.

Down the order, Mohammad Shahid hit four fours to make 25 priceless runs in just 19 balls, which entertained the crowd as well.

For the visitors, Harmer and Dale Steyn both took three wickets each while Vernon Philander bagged two and Zyl and Elgar took one apiece.

South Africa had scored 248 in the first innings.
