Rain is a major component of the water cycle and is responsible for depositing most of the fresh water on the Earth

Uses of rain water includes water for garden, water for livestock, water for irrigation, and indoor heating for houses etc

Rainwater harvesting is a technique used for collecting, storing, and using rainwater for landscape irrigation and other uses.

Rain water harvesting is possible by growing fresh water flooded forests without losing the income from the used or submerged land

The quality of collected rainwater is generally better than that of surface water.

Rainwater harvesting provides an independent water supply for the people.

Advantages:

To meet the ever increasing demand for water. Water harvesting to recharge the groundwater enhances the availability of groundwater at specific place and time and thus assures a continuous and reliable access to groundwater

Reduce soil erosion in urban areas.

In desert, where rainfall is low, rainwater harvesting has been providing relief to people.
