Regrets

"Worst regrets in life are not the wrong things we did in the past, rather those were the right things we should have done, but did not do."

Regrets are inevitable if we are likely to please others often by doing what they want us to do instead of us doing what we love. This thing usually happens to an obedient child who wanted to please their parents in terms of what career path should one take and not taking into consideration what he wants for his life.

I have a friend who is a lawyer that doesn't want his profession. He just graduated and pursues his career because his parents want him to continue their family profession. What he really loves is photography and fine arts. It was just last year when he was diagnosed to have a brain cancer and already in stage four. I was  able to visit him in the hospital and was given the chance to talk with him after his chemotherapy session. We talked for almost 3 hours about everything from the past, about the things that need to be to prioritize to enjoy life. I remember him saying

" I wished I had the courage then to do what I want to do and live this life that is true to myself not the life what others want of me. I could have faced this upcoming death without fear and regrets. Regrets of not living my life to the fullest and fear of leaving this world full of regrets."

It came to my realization that being successful in a career doesn't mean that one is happy  achieving it. At the end of the day, we would still be searching for things that we love to do in pursuit of happiness and contentment. My friend could have been happy if he were able to take some pictures and expressed himself in the field of art that he loved most before bidding this world adieu. Rather than dying    justifying unlawful acts of his client in front of the trial court.
