Resveratrol – A Natural Alternative to Botox?

Posted on at

With people becoming more aware of the dangers of plastic surgery and facial filler injections into their face, more and more people are looking for natural alternatives. Resveratrol is one of the magic ingredients in some skin serums which can benefit our overall appearance.

Resveratrol is a naturally occurring substance found in the skin of red grapes (and red wine), peanuts, pomegranates, cocoa and certain berries. Resveratrol is one of 600 antimicrobial compounds produced by plants to protect them from adverse conditions such as over exposure to sunlight, infections and climate change. When used in skin preparations Resveratrol can offer us the same protection it naturally provides in plants.

When applied to the skin, Resveratrol stimulates cellular proteins called “sirtuins”, which protect the skin and promote longer cell life. It is an antioxidant and as such can promote anti-inflammatory actions. It is effective in the treatment of puffiness and to alleviate those dark circles from under our eyes. Research has pointed towards Resveratrol triggering a “longevity gene” this may not make you life longer but it will certainly make you look younger for longer. Resveratrol’s antioxidant characteristics protect cells from oxidative damage thus providing anti-aging benefits.

Obviously Resveratrol alone is not enough to make up an effective skin serum which can offer anti-aging benefits, Botox-like results and eliminate crow’s feet, dark circles under the eyes and puffiness. Additional ingredients are needed to work seamlessly together to promote new skin growth and repair existing signs of aging and inflammation. Serums which work miracles on the facial skin should include collagen, Hyaluronic Acid and Grape Seed Extract.

When our skin is exposed to sunlight combined with oxygen in the air free radicals are produced which activate an enzyme that breaks down collagen. Collagen is responsible for the elasticity in our skin and is another protein important for youthful skin. Hyaluronic Acid is another essential ingredient in active rejuvenating skin serums. Hyaluronic Acid fights dry skin and helps the skin retain moisture. It is effective in soothing irritated skin and is a natural moisturizer. When your skin is moist it becomes more elastic and fewer lines and wrinkles are formed by dry skin. Grape Seed Extract in dermalogical serums provides a powerful antioxidant and improves circulation. The regrowth of skin cells is stimulated and you get an even-toned, smooth, bright appearance.

Age-defying skin serums can be an effective way to take years off your appearance especially if the ingredients include Resveratrol. When selecting a cream or serum for your skin chose one which is specially formulated for daily use; is all-natural with no unnecessary additives and includes the powerful miracle ingredient Resveratrol.
