“Will she be the same?” I ask myself as I turn the cup of latte around. I’m waiting for almost an hour now. “Well, at least her tardiness didn’t change.” My mind tells me and I smile to myself. “I wonder what she looks like right now… hmmm…”
I check my watch again and let out a sigh. “Will she still recognize me?” My musings continue. “Will she still run and hug me like she used to? Is she still childish? Or more mature? Will she still be loud and noisy? Or more controlled? More lady like?” the questions went on.
Suddenly the door opens and I feel my heartbeats pick up pace. My hands starts to get sweaty. I don’t know if I am nervous or excited. Maybe both.
I turn around and see who it is.
A teenage couple enters and I feel disappointed. Not the person I am expecting. I go back to drinking my coffee that by now is already cold. “Five more minutes, If she won’t show up, I’m leaving.” I tell myself.
The door opens again but an old man comes in.
“Just wait.” My mind tells me. “You managed to wait for five years. This is just a piece of cake.”
The cowbells by the door tinkles as another customer pushes the door open. I check to see who it is. I freeze. The moment that I had been waiting for is finally happening. I find myself staring at a lady in a red sweater and black jeans. Her long dark hair is neatly tied up in a pony tail and she has pearl earrings on her ears.
The lady blinks her eyes fast like she is trying to see my face clearly. And then, a smile gradually paints her face. I know it is her. Her face looks more mature and the way she carries herself has changed but I know it is her. I can tell from her eyes, and the way she smiles. “Oh how I miss seeing that radiant and beautiful smile.” I whisper to myself. Her smile turns into a wide grin. And with few tears streaming in both our eyes, we run to each other and share a warm embrace.
“I miss you so much.” she whispers.
From this moment on, I know I got my best friend back.
