David Brockie, lead singer of the metal outfit GWAR who have been touring and kicking ass for a few decades, has passed away at the early age of 50.
In 1984 Brockie started the band in Richmond, Virginia. They quickly became famous for their on-stage antics and their elaborate costumes. GWAR is definitely not a kids friendly band, and in fact, if you're not familiar with metal and how heavy it can get GWAR would probably blow your mind. Consider then, Dave Brockie, one of the greats at blowing your mind and leaving you wanting more.
Brockie, aka Oderus Urungus, founded what became Richmond's most famous band in 1984 with a group of five boundary-pushing artists and musicians working out of North Side's Richmond Dairy. The band struck a nerve, selling out shows and touring the globe. It released its 13th album in 2013.
That's thirteen albums in the span of 30 years as a band. That's as long as I have been alive (nearly, actually I'm 27) and I'm sure they're heartbroken to find their brother has passed on. Fans everywhere are taking to social media to memorialize David Brockie and share their favorite GWAR experiences.
It truly is a sad day for metal fans everywhere.
