Role of Education to Counter Terrorism

Yes it sounds good but really it can change the things we should have to reform our educational system.

Over the past years our public education system has suffered from reflectance. 43% is the literacy rate of adults in Pakistan. While these values are pretty high in our neigh our country India which is about 90% that’s why they are more stable than us. If we talk about the literacy rate of females in Pakistan which is also quite low that is only 30-32%. And the 12 years of schooling is completed by only 10% of children’s which is quite alarming. Our 50% population are under the age of 18 that means our young generation is key to success and their proper education may lead us to a prosperous Pakistan and will help to boost economy.

Our Policy Makers should have to focus on Madrassas(Muslims religious school). They plays important role because it’s the place where our children’s get to know their religion and read, memorize and recite the Holy Book “Quran”. Many from these Madrassas go for higher education and become a religious scholars. Also government should have to figure out the Madrassas that run directly or indirectly by militants which they use for disruptive activities. Many of our old Madrassas are doing a great job and producing Islamic thinkers and many of them provide welfare services including free religious education, lodging and food to poor people.

Private schools and public schools are providing different level of education. Private schools are providing better education but in the same time they are too much expensive that parents can’t afford but they somehow manage for betterment of their children.

Sindh, Baluchistan provinces has low literacy level and far behind in education. FATA has also less literacy level than other parts of Pakistan. Most parts of the FATA are the no go areas. Children’s of FATA travels miles to reach their schools and most of the school has been closed due to lack of furniture’s, because of improper buildings, lack of teachers and many of the schools were destroyed by militants.

This is the recent photograph in which you can see clearly the situation of our schools where Board level students of Lower Dir, taking exams while holding umbrellas during rain they don’t have a shelter and nothing to sit on but they are willing to get education.

Teacher training programs have to be launched by our government and a proper accountability of teachers to see whether they are performing their duties or not. Our Government has to raise a budget for education.
