Romania’s Irina Begu makes it to the third round at Roland Garros, will meet Kvitova Posted on 16 June 2015 at 05:05 Romanian tennis player Irina Begu, currently 30th in the WTA ranking of the best women’s tennis players in the world, qualified for the first time to the third round of the French Open at Roland Garros. Begu beat Croatia’s Ana Konjuh (No. 93 WTA) in the second round, after two sets in which she only conceded two games (6-2, 6-0). She will have a much more difficult game in the third round, against Czech Petra Kvitova (No. 4 WTA). Romanian champion Simona Halep was unexpectedly eliminated in the second round of the French Open, where she played the final in 2014. Romanians Alexandra Dulgheru and Monica Niculescu also went out of the competition while Andreea Mitu had a hard match ahead of her against Czech Karolina Pliskova.
