Vietnam ’s U19 football team got off to a bad start at the Asian Football Confederation’s U19 Championship in Myanmar, losing 0-6 to the Republic of Korea (RoK) on October 9.
Just before half-time, Lee Jeon-bin scored the first goal for the tournament’s current champion, the RoK. The last goal was scored by Kim Gun-hee in the ninety-second minute during extra time.
The Vietnamese team drew Group C, the competition’s strongest group, including China, Japan and the RoK.
The Japanese team will be an extremely tough opponent for Vietnam, which has won all the previous Japan-Vietnam encounters so far. Their team for the Myanmar competition comprises nine of the players who beat Vietnam 1-0 in the AFF U19 Cup last month.
The RoK has dominated the tournament for years, winning 12 out of 37 Asian Football Club U19 Championships.
