Environment secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League central committee Saifur Rahman Shohagh has been elected as the president of the student body of ruling Awami League.
Zakir Hossain, an assistant secretary of the current committee, has been also selected as the secretary.
They were elected in the 28th national council session election of the organisation.
Voting at the Bangladesh Chhatra League council ended on the final day of the 2-day council session on Sunday evening.
Chief election commissioner Sumon Kundu announced the results after counting where a total of 2,819 councillors casted their votes among the 3, 138 in the elections on the average of 89.83 per cent.
Reliable sources said a syndicate, led by former BCL president Liaqat Shikdar, has lent its unofficial support for a panel led by Saifur Rahman Shohagh, environment secretary of the current central committee of the student body of ruling Awami League, as president candidate and Zakir Hossain, an assistant secretary of the current committee, as the secretary candidate in the election.
A total of 15 president candidates and 40 secretary candidates are competed in the election that began 11:30am.
