CBI suspects scam worth Rs. 4000 crore in Indian Railway in the financial year of 2012-2013 done by under-reporting of the actual weight of loaded goods wagons through the manipulation of software. The alleged manipulation is suspected to have been done through collusion amongst railway officials, private vendors and freight operators. It is alleged that over-loaded wagons were shown to carry weights within the permissible limit by the said manipulation of the software. As a result, there was not only financial loss to the exchequer but also damage to railway tracks and wagons, thus adversely affecting railway safety as a whole. We hope CBI would bust the racket.
