Recently I watched a documentary on Netflix called "$chooled: The Price of College Sports." This movie was very interesting and brought light to the issue of college athletics. I am not sure where I stand on this issue.

College sports is a multi-billion dollar industry and it is the athletes that bring in that money. Yet they are not allowed to get any of that money. In fact, it is a scandal when an athlete gets anything, even gifts for being an athlete. They can't even get money for their own autographs. It is a violation of NCAA rules which wants players to maintain amateur status. But everyone knows who is bringing in the dollars.

On the other hand, the colleges are offering these athletes a free education, food, and shelter. This can be worth thousands of dollars. Most of these athletes won't go professional and the college level is where they stop. But they are able to get an education that leads to a career outside of sports that they can make a living out of. And nobody is forcing these athletes to play for the school. If they don't like the terms of the agreement, they don't have to be college athletes. They can pursue something else which will probably cost more.
