Will "Skyfall" cinematographer, Roger Deakins, finally beat his very own version of Oscar curse? Mr. Deakins was honored by the American Society of Cinematographers for his work on the feature film, "Skyfall," for the 27th Annual American Society of Cinematographers Awards.
Deakins beat out his closest competition, Claudio Miranda, for "Life of Pi." Deakins also won against Seamus McGarvey ("Anna Karenina"), Danny Cohen ("Les Miserables"), and Janusz Kaminski ("Lincoln").
It's fine and dandy but will Deakins finally win an Oscar? The respected cinematographer has been nominated 10 times before but has never won the golden Oscar. But over at ASC, he already took home 2 awards, one for "The Shawshank Redemption" and the other for "The Man Who Wasn't There." Deakins also received the ASC's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011.
The TV winners of the 27th annual ASC Awards went to "Game of Thrones," "Hunted," "Wilfred," and "Great Expectations."
The ASC Lifetime Achievement Award for this year, presented by Angelina Jolie, went to Dean Semler who received an Oscar for Kevin Costner's "Dances with Wolves." He also received an ASC award for that movie and Mel Gibson's "Apocalypto." Jolie presented the award to Semler because he shot the actress' directorial debut, "In the Land of Milk and Honey," and the upcoming "Maleficent."
