When I first saw these little (not exactly little but around the size of a small turkey) birds walk around me, I was truly amazed by their appearance. I have never seen anything quite like it. They have these amazing blue feathers but their fiery red eyes stand out like a little solar eclipse. The saturated red rings beckons you to look at it with wonder causing me to be truly humbled by the miracles of nature.

The western crowned pigeon is among the largest pigeon in the world and is also considered as the most beautiful member of the pigeon family. They can live a life-span of over 20 years. Due to ongoing habitat loss, limited range and overhunting in some areas, the western crowned pigeon is evaluated as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
