There are many advantages of Facebook to you if you want to market your business properly over the internet. One of the key factors is the ability to mention what it is you are trying to promote instantly and to a potentially vast audience. ‘Liking’ a particular group can connect you with even more relevant people and the recent addition of the ‘promote’ option means you can pay a small amount of money for your post to appear at the top of your Newsfeed, making it stand out more to viewers of your page.
Although this move has proved controversial as Facebook has pledged to be ‘free and always will be’; as long as you separate ‘business you’ from ‘personal you’ this is an option that could be considered if you wish to gain readership of a particularly important post, but I would recommend it is used sparingly and cautiously particularly if cash-flow is an issue and there could be a fine line between advertising and alienating people in the virtual world!
Another piece of advice I would give is to be very careful with privacy settings, particularly where photos are concerned. If you are trying to come across as professional be aware of who may be able to see photos of ‘that night out’ that you’d much rather forget!
If possible, set up a separate business page from your personal one that is for family and friends. If used wisely there should be no reason at all why Facebook shouldn’t be a piece in your overall marketing jigsaw.
