Deepika Padukone and Homi Adajania’s #MyChoice video for #Vogue Empower has been creating a lot of buzz ever since it hit the internet. The stars have all reacted to the video and there has been a lot said in support of it as well as against the video.
Kangana Ranaut spoke about the video recently and said that although she appreciates the thought behind the video she doesn't feel it imparts the right message. She was quoted saying, "Women's empowerment does not mean you create a complex among men. Then it will take 20 more years to empower men. It is all about evolving as a soul, as a human being. It does not mean that you become a sexist."
Reportedly, Sonakshi Sinha also applauded the efforts of the makers of the video but emphasized that empowerment needs to be given to women who need it and that is the real issue to be addressed here. Several celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Twinkle Khanna, Farhan Akhar, Karan Johar, Rahul Bose, Arjun Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and many others have tweeted applauding Deepika and Homi for the video.
Sonam Kapoor spoke to Mumbai Mirror about her views on the video as well and her latest tweet to Deepika and Homi clarifies that a lot of what she said has been quoted out of context. They have quoted the actress as saying,"Elitist women have always had wrong ideas about feminism. They think male-bashing… hating men…makes you a true feminist. I don’t have to make a video to voice my opinions. My actions have always spoken louder than my words. I’m proud to be a woman and I respect my independence. I’m never afraid to give my opinion on any matter. That’s what feminism is about."
Although Sonam does have a point here and the video has been criticized extensively for male-bashing, we do hope that the real issue, which is women empowerment continues to find support from A-listers so we can see some real change.
