Yes folks, Steven Spielberg is setting his sights on John Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath" according to Deadline. Spielberg and DreamWorks are in talks with the Steinbeck estate to buy the film rights to the author's beloved 1939 novel. John Ford made a memorable 1940 adaptation of the novel starring Henry Fonda as Tom Joad. Ford won an Oscar for his work on the film.
Spielberg will not be winning a Best Director Oscar for his adaptation of the novel. He will act merely as a producer on the movie. But hey, if the movie is good, then Spielberg gets to take home a Best Picture Oscar.
