If people prove animals are autonomous,
then animal testing (aka animal torture) will end.
An autonomous being is a being (human or animal) that independently and continually demonstrates the ability to think and act without control, with the ability to understand the results of personal action.
The key to being autonomous is to understand consequences associated with actions.
The main question, and an active debate, which (as of now) allows companies to test possibly harmful products to humans on animals before humans use the product. The thinking is, if a certain makeup slowly burns the users face, it is best to burn an innocent monkey’s face first, and spare the gluttonous human.
Humans are clearly the dominate species on Earth (for now). The humans that run companies that test consumer products on animals believe that all lesser species are subject to human control as a means to satisfy human desire for beauty and material advancement. To certain companies, burning a monkey’s face with a chemical is acceptable so a girl can paint her face with pastels before going to prom.
That question of animal autonomy is actually an active debate, which will never end until animal testing ends. If people prove animals are autonomous, that discovery will terminate animal testing.
I agree that animals are not autonomous on the same level as a human, but I believe they are autonomous even if at what humans call, ‘a basic level’.
