Recently, I was asked to help as a volunteer with a project. I was told to find my working team on a website called Amara, where I would subtitle videos in my language. I speak American English, and  type subtitles for videos in English.

When I got to the website Amara.org, I learned of a whole new world of language interaction. The introductory page is simple and provides a short list of places you can go to learn more, or begin a task. The first thing that I did, was watch a Youtube video with the link they provided, and which I will provide here.

As PCWorld.com notes, " You can select any video for transcription – you don't have to own the content: it just has to be available online. Simply provide Amara with a video's URL on YouTube, Vimeo, or another online video service, and it launches into the transcription interface. You don't have to open an account before you begin–you can just start working."

Most work on Amara is voluntary, but under a few circumstances, depending on language, there is paid work.
