One of the oldest bars in New York City just received a few extra weeks of life. A Manhattan Civil Court judge issued a temporary restraining order and ceased all eviction proceedings for the Subway Inn. Bouncer Chronicles reports the Salinas family are owners of the 77 year-old bar which is located at 143 East 60th Street.
World Wide Group, the owners of the property, informed the family in July that they would not offer a new lease. Both parties will return to court soon for a follow up hearing. The bar has turned to social media to rally its patrons to save the spot with petitions.
Subway Inn has had an illustrious history. It once was a popular spot for celebrities including Yankees great Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe.
