The press is unanimous in its praise for FC Barcelona's performance on Wednesday night, with the Uruguayan and Neymar appearing on plenty of front pages.
Barça’s impressive 3-1 win at the Parc des Princes in the Champions League quarter final first leg will best be remembered for two outstanding goals byLuis Suárez. In Catalonia and in the striker’s home country of Uruguay, the press was glowing with praise for his stunning performance in the French capital.
Luis Suárez, along with strike partner Neymar Jr, who scored FCB’s first of the night, appear on the covers of all three main sports dailies in Catalonia. S’ runs with the headline “SuperSuárez and into the semis”, Mundo Deportivoadds a French reference with its cry of “Oh la la!” and L’Esportiu did likewise by emblazoning the word “Eurodisney” on its front page.
In Uruguay, El Observador highlights how Luis Suárez “stormed Paris” and El País lauds “two nutmegs and two scorchers”.
Understandably there was not quite such a jubilant mood in the French papers this morning. The main sports daily in the country, L’Équipe, titled its piece “La Desillusion”. The report goes on to say that Barça’s win was “logical and severe” and that “PSG have lost almost all hope of qualifying for the semi-finals.”
