Gordon’s Bay, the stamp-sized stretch of coast on the map between big-beach players Coogee and Clovelly, has a rustic vibe thanks to the ramshackle boats that line the rocky enclave. Accessible only by foot via a walk down a leafy gully, Gordon’s is frequented by inner-city hipsters armed with radios, lilos and ‘eskies’ (cooler boxes to you and me), ready to top up their tans on the sandstone slabs. Boasting Sydney’s only underwater trail means even a cursory snorkel can result in some colourful findings, including the legendary Bluey the Groper fish – the metre-long native that calls this rocky spot home.
