Taliban is an arabic word, literal meaning of which is one who is seeking something for himself. In pushto the word Taliban generally devotes students studying in Deeni Madarris.

The mystery of Taliban who appeared on the political scene of Afghanistan out of nowhere is still alarming. It is said that Taliban were groomed in madrassas at Afghanistan’s border with Pakistan during the war against Russia. Taliban got religious education at the Deeni madrassas both in Pakistan and Afghanistan including big cities like Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and peshawar. However they might have been received military training in Afghanistan.
On 20th September 1994, A Hirati family while on its way to Kandhar from Herat, was stopped at a check point by local mujahideen. The men and women were separated. The girls were repeatedly raped until they become unconscious.
Later all of them were killed and their bodies were partially burned. It was Mullah Omar who was the first to arrive on the scene. He have gathered some talibs who helped him in collecting the bodies.
He than gather students and pledged to start a campaign to get rid of such criminals. In this way the Taliban Movement started every where in Afghanistan.
Aims And Objectives of Taliban:
1. To establish an Islamic government in Afghanistan where the Shariah law will be the law of land. The country is to be called the Islamic State of Afghanistan and will be governed in according with the Sunni Hanfi Fiqah. A nominated Shoora is to run the affairs of the state in keeping with the edicts of the Amir-ul-Momineen.

2. The Taliban believe in non-interference in the affairs of other countries and similarly desire no outside interference in their country internal affairs. No body or organization whatever its identity or goals will be allowed to carryout any terrorist or criminal activities in other Islamic countries, says their unwritten constitution.
3. The official handouts circulated by Taliban in May 1997 lists the objectives of Taliban as follows .
Restoration of peace.
Collection of weapons.
Implementation of Shariah.
