Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, one of the country's most popular and controversial political leaders of India, died late on Monday evening at the private Apollo Hospital in the state capital, Chennai. She was admitted to the said hospital for the last seventy four days but on Sunday she suffered a heart attack and passed away at 11.30 p.m. on Monday. After the cardiac arrest a day earlier, she was kept on emergency life support treatment but all efforts of doctors failed. She was 68.
