The York Theater company presented the 22nd Oscar Hammerstein Award Gala this past December 9 at the Hudson Theater in New York City. This year's honoree was legendary composer Alan Menken. The event was hosted by star of stage and screen, Norm Lewis and featured performances by Vanessa Williams, Bernadette Peters, Zachary Levi and the man of the hour himself, Alan Menken. Menken's body of work is remarkable, truly a soundtrack for the ages. From much beloved animated Disney classics such as "The Little Mermaid", "Beauty and the Beast" and "Aladdin" to Broadway shows including "God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater", "Little Shop of Horrors", and "Newsies", Mr. Menken needs a really large trophy case to display his 8 Oscars, 7 Golden Globes, 11 Grammys and 1 Tony. That is some serious hardware!
#InTheLab was on the Red Carpet at the event and host Arthur Kade spent some time chatting with the evening's honoree Alan Menken as well as host Norm Lewis, and performers Bernadette Peters and Zachary Levi. A special evening to celebrate a lifetime of musical achievement...
