Continuing were we left off in the first part of this blog series where I tell you about the best movies in my humble opinion to ever grace the silver screen in the 80's.
Beverly Hills Cop:
One of the best action comedies of all time, Beverly Hills Cop follows the story of a cop from Detroit going to Beverly Hills to solve a murder case.
This movie is iconic and during its production which started in 1977, the movie faced major problems in the writing department and was rewritten several times. The movie even starred Mickey Rourke at one point and Silvester Stallone at another. But in the end Eddie Murphy played the lead and his performance was amazing.
Beverly Hills Cop to this day is one of the best action/comedy movies of all time because of its perfect balance between humour and action, and also a stand out performance by Eddie Murphy. There were two other sequels for this movie, the second part was a major hit but the third one was less successful.
Fright Night:
Now this is one of my all time favourites, Fright Night is simply the 80's at its best. This Horror/comedy follows the story of a young man who finds out that his new next door neighbour is a vampire.
The young man then tries to convince Peter Vincent a TV character that has a show about vampires and monsters to help him kill the vampire next door after he takes his girlfriend. The idea itself is unique and the way its executed is simply brilliant.
The movie has a certain mood that can not be explained, its funny and at the same time scary with amazing visuals and make-up effects that are impressive to this day. This is a very atmospheric movie, especially the final scene inside the vampire's house. Add to that an amazing soundtrack and you got yourself one of the best vampire movies of all time.
A sequel was made a couple of years later but it wasn't as successful or good as the first one and in 2011 a remake was made that was actually decent.
