On October 23rd 1940 the footballer Edson Arantes do Nascimento was born.
That's not the name most people know him by, and quite likely one that wouldn't be recognised. Instead, he is better known as Pelé.
The Brazilian born Pelé is considered one of the greatest, if not the greatest, footballers of all time, being the most successful league scorer in the world and the highest number of career goals scored, as well as having received awards such as Athlete of the Century and World Player of the Century.
Pelé did not play for many clubs - three in total - but one of them was the New York Cosmos, after his official retirement.
