This boy is the only blind person in the world who can see using his ears. Yes, you heard it right! He is blind but still he can see. Anyway, don’t take this literally because this amazing boy is the only person in the world that possesses this kind of skill.
Ben Underwood is blind since he was three. At that age, both of his eyes are removed but amazingly he develop a skill wherein he could still see the world but in a different way. As said in the video, although Ben is blind, he could still see thanks to his incredible skill of echo navigation. Just like the bats that are also known blind, Ben took advantage of echoes.
How Ben Underwood sees through echoes? What is echo navigation? To make everything sound simple, the skill of echo navigation only require this two things: sound and ears. In the video, Ben first created sound using his mouth, if you observe very closely the sound that he’s creating quite resembles the sound produce by bats. This sound travels and bounces back to him where he can easily locate where the objects are located.
Because of sound navigation, Ben Underwood lives a very normal life. He can walk anywhere he wants, ride his bicycle, play sports, go to class and even play video games! Just like a normal person complete with 5 senses, Ben Underwood can be consider not as a handicap but a differently abled person because he might be blind but still he can see the complete picture of the world through sounds.
