The Discovery of Agatha Christie

Posted on at

On December 14th 1926 British crime fiction writer Agatha Christie was discovered at the Swan Hydropathic Hotel in Harrogate, registered under a false name as Mrs Teresa Neele from Cape Town.

On December 3rd Christie had gone missing during the evening, after quarrelling with her husband, Archie, who wanted a divorce. Archie had left the house to spend the weekend with his mistress. Agatha Christie's car was discovered, empty, with an expired driving license and some clothes.

A public outcry ensued and a £100 reward was offered, and 1,000 police officers, 15,000 volunteers and several aeroplanes looked for her.

It is not known what happened during the time she was missing, or why she did.
