On November 23rd 1910, Hawley Harvey Crippen, better known as Dr. Crippen, was hanged in Pentonville Prison in London.
Dr Crippen was a US born homeopath and distributor of patent medicines, being able to practice as a doctor after moving to the UK. His wife, Cora, was a singer who frequently slept around. Crippen himself did the same, possibly in revenge.
On January 31st of 1910 Cora disappeared. Dr Crippen claimed she had moved back to the US, and died there. After several searches of Crippen's house, the remains of a body were found and identified as the missing Cora. Crippen and his mistress were currently crossing the Atlantic, and the ship used a wireless telegram sent back to England stating that it was believed Crippen was on board. Crippen was later caught in Canada, and was the first criminal to be caught using wireless telegraphy.
