The fall of Palmyra of Syria to the ISIS means that the city’s 2,000 year old ruins are now under the control of the ISIS militants. So it is feared that like in the past in other locations, some of the cultural relics will be destroyed for being un-Islamic and the rest that would not get destroyed would be looted and smuggled to the Western countries to get sold for millions of dollars. Thus, the trafficking of antiquities has now become a major source of revenue for the terrorist group.
