The medically mystified "solar kids" of Pakistan.

Posted on at

The two brothers, aged 9 and 13, who come from a village near Quetta, the capital of southwestern Baluchistan province of Pakistan are normal active children during the day. But once the sun sets in the evening, they both lapse into a vegetative state and are unable to move or talk. The two brothers are undergoing extensive medical testing in the capital, Islamabad but the doctors are still trying their best to find out the cause or the remedy of the complaints. It is learnt that their parents are first cousins and two of their six children died at an early age. Their other two children have not displayed any unusual symptoms. Their parents believe that their sons get energy from sun and hence they have come to be known as the "solar kids" of Pakistan. But the doctors have already dismissed the idea that sunlight plays a role, noting that the boys can move during the day even when kept in a dark room or during a rainstorm. Thus the case still remains a mystery of medical sciences.
