The former President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam was on Thursday laid to rest with full state honours in his home town Rameswaram amid chants of "Bharat Mata Ki Jai". A 1.5 acre piece of land was earmarked for the purpose of burial of his body. After being brought from his family mosque where special prayers were offered, the body of Kalam was buried in the middle of that piece of land. The late President was accorded full military honours, including gun salute and playing of the Last Post. Apart from his family members, relatives and common people, a galaxy of leaders including India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the funeral.
