The New Generation of French Cinema

Posted on at

I had a nice surprise when I saw Cannes Film Festival's winners this year, especially in the 'Best Actor' category won by French actor Jean Dujardin. Not that I think he doesn't deserve it. But in my mind, The Cannes Festival has always rewarded more experienced directors and actors.

So I thought it would be a good opportunity to bring up the topic of the new generation in French cinema. Let's start with actor Jean Dujardin. I hope his reward at the Festival will help him reach more international fame because he truly is part of the best French actors who have arisen in the past decade. For the French speakers, I recommend the TV series that launched his caree, "Un Gars, Une Fille', depicting the everyday life of a young couple. You recognize a good actor when he can play different kind of characters and still be credible. Jean Dujardin is more known for his humoristic roles but can be also quite impressive in drama movies.

Marion Cotillard is probably more well-known by Americans thanks to her Academy Award. She successfully runs an international career and has recently starred in films along with movie stars like Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Day-Lewis and soon Christian Bale.

And if you want to discover more French actors and actresses, I suggest you watch movies with Audrey Tautou (who hasn't seen 'Amelie'? but she has a lot more on her record), Romain Duris, Cecile DeFrance, or Guillaume Canet. Let me know if you like them!
